I have made a few prototypes on my brand-new lounge chair designed in March 2009- Since I am a small firm (single designer/single maker) I have had to sell a few of the prototypes to fund my design process. Answers

  1. Could you please let me know what the eligibility rules are for your *one good chair* competition?

Any designer can enter any design that has not yet been produced – that is the designer can be a professional or a student but the design must not yet have been put into production.

  2. Would like to enter the contest. When? Where? How much?

Here are the steps you take to enter the competition:
1 – Create an account (the system will send you a password)
2 – Log in to the OGC website and update your profile
3 – Register for the competition (before registration closes!)
4 – Create one or more entries in the competition: US $30 if you register before April 1st, $50 if you register before May 1st and $70 if you register before 5pm EDT on June 15th (your credit card statement will show the amount in your local currency). These fees are for a single submission, to make multiple submissions, additional fees will be charged depending on the number of submissions.
5 – Fill out each entry by writing a description of your chair and uploading atleast 5 JPG
images, but no more than 8 images. The images should be no more than 2MB in size, but they can be of sketches, small built models or computer-generated designs. Image requirements:
    a. at least one image illustrating a human body in the chair (diagram of a side elevation is preferable)
    b. at least one image illustrating proposed fabrication techniques
    c. at least one image showing proposed shipping techniques, if your design were to be made available commercially

  3. I wondered if you accept international participants? How do they convert the money to register in US, etc.?

We DO accept international participants – designers from ALL nations are welcome to submit entries!
Payment is via PayPal with a credit card, and that works internationally, too. The system takes payment in US$ ($30 before April 1st, $50 before May 1st; $70 before 5pm EDT on June 15th), and you will see the conversion from local currency on your credit card statement.

  4. What do you mean when according to this contest the designer's name should be anonymous?

To clarify, the designer remains anonymous UNTIL the finalists are chosen. We do it this way because we do not want the judges to know the name of the designers while they are considering the entries.

  5. I created an account but never received an email with my password. What should I do?

After you create an account, you should receive an email with your password (make sure to check your SPAM folder). If you don’t receive this message, you can reset your password here:

    http://www.onegoodchair.com/account/password/reset/

You should then receive an email with a new password. Once you log-in to the site with the new password, you can register for the OGC 2010 competition.

  6. I would like to submit two or three different chair designs; how can I do this?

You can submit multiple chair designs, but each design should be entered as its own entry. You will have to register for each chair design you plan to submit. You will also need to pay for each design registration. For example, if you want to submit three chair designs, you would register for three different entries, and would pay $90.00 ($30×3) for each registration, if you register before April 1st, $150.00 ($50×3) if you register before May 1st, $210.00 ($70×3) if you register before 5 pm EDT on June 15th.

  7. I have designed and manufactured one chair, the prototype, of my design. May I still enter the contest with this chair design?

Yes, if it follows two conditions:
    1. you made a first copy and prototype; the only one that has been made
    2. you have not sold the chair prototype

  8. I've been trying to log in to my account and it keeps telling me that my cookies aren't enabled. What should I do?

Cookies are controlled from your web browser. They need to be enabled for you to log-in. To learn how to enable and disable cookies for your browser, please go to this web page:
    http://help.expedient.com/browsers/cookies.shtml

  9. What exactly are the limits to "digital concepts submitted on line." Can these be anything that can be submitted digitally (scan of a sketch, photo of a mock-up)? Or must they have been created digitally (e.g. image capture from a CAD model or an actual sketch-up model)?

To clarify, the digital images must be uploaded as JPG and less than 2mb in size – but YES, it can be a scan of a sketch, a photo of a mock-up, or an image that has been created digitally.

  10. I have made a few prototypes on my brand-new lounge chair designed in March 2009- Since I am a small firm (single designer/single maker) I have had to sell a few of the prototypes to fund my design process. Am I disqualified from entering because I have sold the 4 chairs (all hand-made prototypes) I have made?

This depends on whether the prototypes you have made resulted in modifications to your design. If so, then the submission should include these modifications/improvements, which would not yet have been produced.
